Hi, I’m Eric Raymond

My family’s roots in Leelanau County date back to 1944, when my grandparents moved here from Chicago. I grew up in Grand Rapids, MI, where my dad was an artist, an art educator, and photographer. Thanks to his summers off, I spent my first 17 summers of my life living on Good Harbor Bay. Because my parents and grandparents land was within the new parks boundaries they sold their land and homes to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in 1976. My parents purchased a cottage on Lime Lake that that same year, which is still in our family today.

Following in my dad’s footsteps, I earned a BFA from MSU. Though I didn’t use my degree professionally until now, the fundamentals of art—perspective, space, form, line, lighting, color, and texture—have shaped how I create my images.

I strive to to evoke emotion in my images through intentional composition, and a variety of photographic editing techniques. My goal is to capture the essence of this beautiful area.

Much of my inspiration comes from the stunning land an lake scapes that surround us in Leelanau County. Please reach out to me with questions about my work and/or Leelanau County!

Oh, and in case you recognize the chair, I’m crazy for everything mid century modern.
